"Automotive Technician Training Program: Training and employment opportunities
for young adults interested in a futuristic high-tech career."

Speaker: Mr. Archie H. Avedisian, Member Relations Specialist, Washngton Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA), Washington, DC. The Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber has partnered with WANADA to promote the WANADA Technician Training Program. We need your help to help us identify young Hispanic males who like cars and are interested in a state-of-the art automotive technology career.  There is a technological revolution in the automotive industry and WANADA and the Chamber offers fully paid training opportunities for young people.

The Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA) was founded in 1917 to represent and promote the retail automobile business in the Washington Metropolitan area. One of its signature programs is the WANADA Technician Training Program that was developed to provide career opportunities for young adults unable to afford post high school technician training. Unlike associate degree programs at community colleges wherein students attend fulltime, the WANADA program matches post-high school adults interested in an automotive technician career with a fulltime, paying job at a dealership and provides for their training by matching them with an in-dealership mentor who insures their in-classroom instruction is properly supported by real world automotive repair experience.

Classroom instruction occurs one full day per week at a NATEF-certified college and consists of four key modules, which are taken one per semester. Each candidate is also required to successfully complete his or her own manufacturer specific training program. Completion of all four modules (a two-year process) provides the competency needed for participants to successfully pass the ASE Certification exams required to become an ASE Master Technician.

About the Speaker: Mr.  Avedisian is the President Emeritus of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Wasington and one of the leading forces in the success of the WANADA Technician Training Program. For the past 50 years he has had leadership positions with Boys Clubs throughout the United States. He earned an Master of Arts from New York University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York. He and his wife live in Montgomery Village.
