Meet my Dad, Jack Plummer. The Honorably discharged Army Staff Seargent, 51 years of age, my personal hero, and role model to many.

No one has helped me more in this world to be the man I am now than my dad, Jack. He taught me what it means to be honorable, a person of integrity, to keep calm in all adversity, and never give up in life no matter how much it sometimes tries to keep you down. His motto is "If you havent failed at things in life then you’re not challenging yourself enough. So, if there is no risk of failure then you’re not taking big enough risks."

Why am I telling you all this? The reason I am introducing you to my father is not just out of pride but also because he has Hairy Cell Leukemia that is making a strong and relentless comeback after being in remission for over 15 years. Jack was just recently told by his Doctor that he would be surprised to see him back in his office this next January. However, staying true to his motto he is staying calm, not giving up, and taking this challenge with his head held high. He does this all in good spirits and gives thanks every day for the time he was given since his last and very near fatal encounter with this cancer. Unfortunately the sad truth is that his Dr. says his chances of beating it a second time at his age is next to impossible and prognosis is probably going to be accurate within a month or two barring a true 2nd miracle.

That brings me to the point of this message. My father, while a great man of many talents and who has given up more material things for me, my family, his friends, and his country is not a man of financial independence and this is where we all come in and make the saying true: "That to be rich with friends is to be poor with nothing."

I am secretly putting together his "bucket list" of things I have heard him long to do, go, or see over our years of fishing, surfing, and working together. It is my deepest wish to check off at least a couple of these things over the next 3 months before cancer takes another husband, father, and friend from this world.

There are many things on my father’s bucket list but the top one touched my heart the most because it was because he wants to do something special with his wife, my mother, before he goes. It is a trip Hawaii for their 1st true honey moon in over 35 years of marriage.

The goal is to raise $10,000 this time around to send him and my mother to Hawaii this next month. I know it can be done for less but we’re very limited on time and a true Hawaiian vacation for your last days on Earth should not include the words “we didn’t have the money for it”.

I want to show my dad that people in this world still care. That all his talks of people's wanting to be generous, kind, and giving were not all just empty teachings.

This is a race against time and this Leukemia and I know we can all help my dad finish strong.
