Tableau Software Training: Turning Data Into an Easy Visual Graphic
Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (EDT)
Training: Turning data into an easy visual graphic – Wednesday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. – noon in the Bloomberg Classroom
Ever stuck with a pile of data you want to turn into an eye-catching web graphic for your website or blog? Tableau Software has a tool to help you take that tangle of numbers and finesse it into a quick, and interactive, web draw.
Tableau is sending a trainer from Seattle to the National Press Club for a two-hour hands-on session on Oct. 3, similar to what has been done at NICAR and other journalism conferences. "Tableau Public," a free version of the company's software, allows journalists and bloggers to visualize data fast and publish it interactively to the web without programming.
Ellie Fields, senior director of product marketing for Tableau, will cover the basics of using Tableau to quickly create data visualizations (maps, charts, etc.) and post them to your website. It will also cover more advanced features of this FREE software. She'll also provide real-life examples of reporters and news organizations who used Tableau to transform dull data into great graphics.
NOTE: This will be the morning of the first presidential debate. For some, a late night might afford some morning leeway for training. But please do not reserve a spot if debate coverage willprevent you from attending.
Sponsored by the National Press Club Journalism Institute, Professional Development Committee. Cost: $5 for members, $10 for non-members.
