Reality Tour Program: 'A Win, Win' for Sheriffs

National Sheriff's Association Board Member Sheriff Dennis Rickard introduced this 'Reality Tour Workshop'   at the 2009 NSA Conference.... calling it a Win! Win! for Sheriffs.

That's because this volunteer program permanently galvanizes the community around drug prevention and Sheriff's take the lead.  Citizens help present the program monthly or quarterly.  Parents attend with their child and both come away emotionally changed by the dramatical portrayals of the consequence of drug and alcohol use.

Brief, minimally staged dramatic scenes follow the life and death of an addict.  You are part of the arrest scene that can even include a drug dog.

Local EMT's take part in the ER scene and 2 community members portray the parents in the funeral scene. Brief scenes are very moving because the addict is heard telling his story before every scene. (Reality Tour Program Model includes the addict narrative on CD)

One half hour of the program is dedicated to YOU!  As a law enforcement officer, you have a lot to add to the drug/alcohol prevention message. This is your time to tell it like it is and be heard by an eager audience.

In Sheriff Rickard's community of Butler, PA. the program often has a waiting list to get in.  Over 850 parents and youth attend on their own each year in the community of Butler - without advertising!  Program is inexpensive to purchase ($3500) and maintain - businesses will sponsor the program and you can earn more prevention dollars from it..

CANDLE is served by a board of directors and is listed on PA's Bureau of Charitable Organizations. 

Norma Norris, originator of the Reality Tour, serves as Executive Director.
