RHI Sports Program Athletes
Passion. Dedication. Competition. The RHI Sports Program athlete lives by these words in a continued quest for excellence.  Our athletes compete at various levels, from the beginning water skier to the word champion slalom skier. The wheelchair basketball player who participates in a weekly league to the RHI Pacers basketball team member testing his strength and endurance. The family who enjoys sailing and fishing on the weekends. At RHI Sports, there is something for everyone.

As the leading sports program in Indiana for individuals with disabilities, we offer our athletes an unparalleled experience of teamwork and personal growth. RHI Sports is the official Indiana training partner of the U.S. Paralympic Academy and has sent nine athletes and coaches around the world for education and training. The program also is a proud member of BlazeSports America, a legacy program of the U.S. Disabled Athletes Fund and the 1996 Paralympics.

While the skills of our athletes are different, their stories are the same. All have enhanced their quality of life through the RHI Sports Program. Perhaps Chris Bentlage, a paraplegic after a tragic motorcycle accident and current RHI Pacers member, sums up the program’s impact best.  “Everything I do today is because of RHI,” he says. “They are single-handedly responsible for what I am able to accomplish on and off the court.”

SUPPORT
From beep baseball to wheelchair racing, to quad rugby and wheelchair basketball, the RHI Sports Program offers individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy adaptive sports with the goal of enhancing quality of life, promoting physical fitness and meeting the challenge of performing at a competitive level.

RHI’s Sports Program specializes in serving youth and adults with spinal cord, orthopedic, neuromuscular and visual impairments. Specially designed equipment such as hand-cycles, racing chairs, tennis chairs, water skis and adaptive golf carts enable our participants to enjoy activities in a comfortable and safe manner.

The RHI Sports Program boosts more than 15 sports teams and conducts approximately 25 athlete development programs throughout the year. As a result, more than 22,000 program hours offered to over 300 athletes with physical disabilities. In the last ten years, quad rugby, wheelchair basketball, power soccer, water skiing, track and field, beep baseball, tennis, golf and racing all have grown into staple programs.

Families also enjoy weekend activities such as white water rafting, horseback riding, sailing, scuba diving, rock climbing, tennis and water skiing.

How you can Help
The RHI Sports Program is supported by donations. When RHI athletes require funds to compete, they need donations to help pay for travel, equipment, and other costs. Please consider supporting our program and help out athletes in their quest to excel.
