Laura Rebolloso is a dancer, poet, and virtuoso performer on the leona, the largest and lowest pitched member of the jarana guitar family that is popular in the Veracruz region of Mexico. She is a 21st century poet and troubadour rooted in the 400-year-old son jarocho. In 1992 she co-founded the ensemble Son de Madera, regarded today as one of the most important exponents of son jarocho and a champion of the community music celebration called fandango.

Tonight Rebolloso will perform songs from the traditional repertoire of son jarocho as well as original compositions. She is a recipient of many prestigious awards in Mexico. She has performed in different parts of the United States not only music and dance, but also with faculties of Ethnic Studies and Women Studies. Laura’s expressiveness and charisma, combined with carefully crafted songwriting and a healthy dose of improvisation, make for an unforgettable performance experience.
