Join us for Center for Youth Ministry Studies Lecture Series:

Youth Worker Sustainability: Walking on Stable Ground

taught by Alison Burkhardt, Assistant Director of Center for Youth Ministry Studies

Monday, November 19, 2012 at 7 pm

Helwig Recreation Center, 208 A (Second floor, on the Corner of Kedzie and Carmen Aves)

Youth workers have one of the hardest jobs out there. It starts with a calling from God and a passion for young people. It requires non-traditional work hours, a commitment to a non-traditional job (or jobs!), and often feels like it is given less focus and resources than other roles in the church or community.

With the changing economy and social service cuts, church, para-church, and secular nonprofit organizations are needed more than ever to fill the gap. These changing trends can wreak havoc on communities in the form of non-renewed grants, terminated service contracts, or simply lower tithes and offerings.  As a result, important programs and ministries are lost, and many youth workers are shuffling from job to job without much stability.

This series will focus on helping youth workers learn and develop tools to be proactive in areas such as balance, revenue generation, scenario forecasting, collaboration, asset mapping, and learning how policy changes affect the youth worker and ministry field. Part One: Walking on Stable Ground will cover trend changes to funding and policy, as well as provide tips and tools for finding stability in the ever-changing field while seeking faithfulness to God's authority and calling.

Parking is available in all North Park Lots after 4 pm without a permit.
