Celebrating the History of the A - from the Roof!!!
On September 25, 1992 David Willkie climbed onto the roof of the Athenaeum and lived in a 10 x12 shed for two months to raise awareness to the needs of our great, historic building. In that year, estimates for the roof repair to the 'A' were 1.2 million dollars. David's goal was to raise 600,000 of that in 60 days. An endowment by the Lilly Foundation awarded a two year matching funds grant toward roof repairs.
This October, during the week leading up to our annual GermanFest celebration, The Athenaeum Foundation's president Cassie Stockamp, will live on the roof and host fundraising events open to the public.
Please help us celebrate the 20th anniversary of this historic occasion by attending one of our events open to the public. We hope to see you up on the roof!
*Please see individual events for description.*
*Events scheduled rain or shine! Only access to roof is by stairs, not wheelchair accessible*
