It takes a rare vocalist to scale the body of work left to us by Janis Joplin. In "Livin' Janis," Dorian Rush delivers! She revisits the music, memories and melancholy of this rock legend. This show is a lively, belting, lyrical rock and roll Cabaret show dedicated to the life and spirit of one of the greatest female blues singers of our time. Dorian combines the soul of delta blues, the heart of country folk and the true grit of rock and roll into one honest, revealing intimate tribute to Janis Joplin. We could all write the song list, but here goes...
"Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)," " To Love Somebody," " Cry Baby," " Tell Mama," " Summertime," " Down On Me," and so on and so on....
Everyone has memories of how Janis Joplin affected them. Here is how she described her own personal style "I'm a victim of my own insides. There was a time when I wanted to know everything...It used to make me very unhappy, all that feeling. I just didn't know what to do with it. But now, I've learned to make that feeling work for me. I'm full of emotion and I want a release, and if you're on stage and if it's really working and you've got the audience with you, it's a oneness you feel."
Dorian Rush's powerful, bluesy voice is one of the few that could do this show justice. She will be joined on stage by Michael Sollars on drums, Bill Davis on guitar and Brian Broussard on bass.
