AAII Silicon Valley Chapter Presents: "2012 Changes and Updates to Medicare"

Important: Please Note the New Location!

Ask anyone turning 65 about Medicare and, likely as not, they will say it is confusing and complicated.  There are Parts A and B of Original Medicare, and Medigap plans to supplement them.  There’s Part D, the prescription drug plan with the infamous “donut hole.”  And there’s Part C of Medicare, also known as Medicare Advantage, which typically combines Parts A, B and D into one plan.  There is the process of enrollment, as well as a myriad of rights and rules every Medicare beneficiary should know.

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) of the Council on Aging Silicon Valley can help current and prospective Medicare beneficiaries as well as caregivers unravel the mysteries and wonders of Medicare.

Attend This Meeting to Learn:

  • What Medicare is, and understand the benefits and costs

  • Understand the required and optional parts of Medicare, including prescription drug coverage

  • Understand what the health care reform legislation means for Medicare beneficiaries

Reasons to Attend This Meeting:

  • Know what the options are for “filling the gaps” in Medicare coverage, including retiree benefits and Medigap policies

  • Be better able to decide on which parts of Medicare you or your loved-one should select

  • Don’t miss the new enrollment periods

Speaker: Connie Corrales HICAP Director

Ms. Corrales directs the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) at Council on Aging Silicon Valley.  HICAP is a state sponsored, volunteer-supported program that provides free counseling to people with Medicare about their benefits rights and options, and other health insurance-related questions.  For the past fifteen years Connie has specialized in promoting the rights of seniors and disabled persons.  As the HICAP Director, Connie supervises 30 HICAP counseling sites countywide and oversees a volunteer workforce.
