VISUAL ARTS: Photography

Grade Level Eligibility: Current 8-11th

Meeting Dates Fridays: August 31, Sept. 7, 14 and 21,

4:30-6:30 PM

Cost: $40 per student

Moving between current and vintage photographic technologies, this four-day photo workshop will explore the Cyanotype printing process, an alternative non-silver process created by William Henry Fox Talbot and used by Anna Atkins, the first person to publish a book using the process. Students will create compositions using collage and photogram techniques, while learning a bit about its history in the Constructivist and Dadaist movements. We’ll also consider contemporary work in this genre by Rauschenberg, Adam Fuss and others. Students will learn how to scan, create digital negatives, delve into the wet darkroom lab and to use a light exposure unit (if the sunlight is dim). Emphasis will be placed on design, craftsmanship and creativity!
