About the Event:
Join us for Pizzaoilo pizza, popcorn, and a pre-DVD release screening of Fixing the Future, which has been creating a buzz since it premiered nationwide in theaters in July.
Building upon our Peterson Series theme for this semester, “The Enterprise of the Future,” this film highlights individuals engaged in a business movement that is reinventing the American economy and disrupting the big business status quo.
Spawned by a confluence of the economic crisis, environmental concerns, and renewed interest in local community building, an entirely new generation of businesses is emerging. Fixing the Future highlights communities and entrepreneurs that are employing sustainable models—such as local business alliances, community banking, and worker cooperatives—to create jobs and build prosperity.
Following the film, Beth Haiken, VP of Corporate Citizenship and Communications at Waypoint Homes, will share her reactions and how it relates to Waypoint's own innovative model.
At the end of the event, we will have a raffle that includes a $50 gift certificate to Pizzaiolo!
We'll have pizza from them served before the film too, and popcorn during the film. Pizzaiolo serves delicious wood-fired pizza made from sustainably and locally sourced ingredients. They are a proud supporter of the Community Alliance for Family Farmers' Buy Fresh Buy Local initiative.
About the Speaker:
Beth Haiken leads Waypoint’s corporate social responsibility initiatives as well as internal and external communications and human resources. Waypoint Homes is a Bay Area-based, new-generation real estate company; their innovative business model generates profits as well as value for the communities in which they provide affordable single family homes.
Prior to joining Waypoint, Beth was a senior vice president at Ogilvy Public Relations, where she served as senior counselor to a number of national brands. Before that, she lead global communications for The PMI Group, Inc., a mortgage insurance and credit enhancement company in the Bay Area. She joined PMI from Providian Financial in San Francisco. In her first career, Beth taught American History at the University of British Columbia and the University of Tennessee.
Beth holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate from UC Berkeley, as well as a master’s degree from Harvard University.
About the Peterson Series:
Each semester, the Center for Responsible Business partners with business and thought leaders to bring a series of events around a topic of corporate responsibility or sustainability. This program promotes exploration of emerging areas that require vision and leadership from our students, corporate partners and faculty members.
Fall 2012’s “Enterprise of the Future” theme will generate a semester-long discussion on how global sustainability megaforces will significantly affect corporate growth over the next 20 years, and what this implies for managers. Together, we will explore new pathways forward for successfully managing the Enterprise of the Future.
