ASTD-Puget Sound December Chapter Meeting
Tuesday December 15th, 2009
Despite today’s challenging business environment, workplace learning and performance (WLP) professionals are more important than ever before. Learn how to turn our economic climate into a boon for your employment, and that of others.
Cutting operating costs is the #1 priority of today’s CEOs, and that’s what we do, whether we’re facilitating learning in raising productivity, reducing waste, improving communication, collaboration, teamwork, and leadership, updating current skill sets, or introducing new skill sets. Due to our recession, we have lost 10 million jobs, resulting in 10.2% unemployment, and 15.7 million unemployed. However, with regard to job recovery, the lower-skilled and lower waged jobs are not the jobs that are coming back. Organizations are creating new jobs that require greater skills and education. Here we come, talented learning facilitators!
Tom Peters, still one of today’s most revered thought-leaders, claims that a learning organization is essential to success in our current and future economies. As a result, CEOs are recognizing that their role is to lead Learning Organizations. And informal learning is growing as a means of improving workplace performance-who initiates, tracks, and ensures its deployment? Again, here we come! We, as today’s WLP professionals, hold the key to the success of our organizations and our economy. Don’t throw that key away-make sure to use it wisely!
Leave our December 15 Chapter Meeting having practiced five time-tested techniques in one hour! You will identify your organizations’ learning needs, determine the means to address them, and express your solution in the learners’ language.
