Richard Ford is a great American writer. His books – including The Sportswriter, Independence Day and Wildlife – have been praised universally and won him many awards as well as a massive international readership. His new novel, Canada, is no exception. John Banville in the Guardian called it ‘a superlatively good book, richly imagined and beautifully fashioned... one is tempted to acclaim it a masterpiece ... [it] could only have been written by a writer of Richard Ford's empathy, insight and technical mastery’. Ford talks about Canada - a visionary novel of vast landscapes, complex identities and fragile humanity which questions the fine line between the normal and the extraordinary, and the moments that haunt our settled view of the world.
