Photography
So you've got a camera and you're disappointed with the results.  Or maybe you're just thinking about going digital and you want to make sure you know what to do with it.

Well if that's the case, this class is for you.  I'll lead you through basic photography to make sure you understand how to make a correct exposure and what to do with composition of the photograph.  We'll talk about all the features you need to understand to make consistently good quality photos.  That sounds really simple, and that's because I'm confident that you can be taught to take great photographs. All you need is the desire to do so, and we can do the rest together.

This class is geared towards providing you with the basics of photography from the ground up as they relate to Digital (and Film) cameras. Here's some of the many topics we'll discuss:

  • How to select the right ISO and why.
  • How and why to set white balance or select the right film.
  • How to hold your camera and aim it to compose the photograph you're after.
  • How to change the settings (f-stop, shutter speed, etc.) on the camera to achieve the effect you desire in your photos.
  • How and when to use a flash.
  • How to use the Sun to make better outdoor portraits.
  • How to use commonly available materials to produce studio quality portraits, almost anywhere.
  • How to take great photographs in some of the worst conditions.
  • How to come home from your vacation with photos that you'll want to share with everyone.
  • How to position yourself for getting professional looking results with a basic camera.
  • How to buy the camera (if you don't have one) that best fits your needs and photographic interest.
  • How to overcome common problems with focus.
  • How to use your flash to turn good pictures into great photographs.
  • How to manage your digital images and prints, so you can find them when you want to reprint them.

This photo was taken with a Canon 20D digital camera
These are just some of the topics we'll discuss. We'll discuss various cameras to help you understand every topic more thoroughly. You'll have plenty of opportunity to get your questions answered in a way that will be meaningful.

We're going to talk about photographing your friends and family, your pets, your car, your house, nature, and just about anything that you might want to photograph. If you have a camera I encourage you to bring it along so you can get practice on your own camera as we move through these topics.

This class will meet weekly on 4 evenings starting on the date shown in this listing .  Each session will be from 7-9 pm and you will be given assignments to complete between sessions.
