These free classes are for 9-11 year old and can count for some of the requirements of scout badges and pins. All of the classes are at Tule Ponds, 1999 Walnut Ave, Fremont. Participants must register for each event. Since the demand will be high, please sign up only if you are committed to attend. If you cannot attend, please contact us as soon as possible. Each class is limited to 16 students.

 Learn how to build a dome house from tule and help thatch the Ohlone style tule house at Tyson Lagoon.Class also includes an opportunity to learn some outdoor skills from long ago, as we rub two sticks together to make a fire.

 Learn how to use tule to make a boat that paddles like a kayak. We will spend the morning learning about the process, then bind and shape the tule into the hull of the boat. By mid afternoon we will have a tule balsa similar to those used by the Ohlone People in San Francisco Bay.(4 hour total; 2 hours in morning, 2 hours in afternoon) High school students can receive service learning or community service hours for this project. Tule Boat will remain onsite for young children to experience.

 Participants should bring water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a lunch.(Water fountain on site) Wear shoes that can get wet and muddy!
