We urge you to register your participating ELA teachers in The Writing Matters three-day institute! It is s an intensive hands-on experience for teachers who work both independently and in learning teams. Teachers will experience every step of the writing process, using writers’ notebooks and computers to develop models for classroom use.
Institute Details: The Institute provides a theoreticalgrounding in program pedagogy by introducing the steps of the writing processand components of the workshop model, emphasizing skills addressed in theCommon Core Learning Standards. The institute also delves into Mastering the Essentials, a genre study to start the year off. In this unit, teachers learn the expectations, organization and structure of writing workshop as well as the technology practices and procedures that will make the program successful for students and for themselves. The final segment of the multi-day institute covers performance assessment practices by introducing rubrics and other tools and strategies appropriate for measuring progress, conferring and differentiating instruction. Integral to this professional development process is practice in using 21st century tools and assessment strategies that can be applied back at school.
