Disruptors: 2012 - Wed. August 15th, 2012

Join us for an afternoon of one-on-one discussions with Canadian innovators who are at the forefront of change in their industries and who are using the web and social media in new and exciting ways.

This inaugural Disruptors: 2012 runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Toronto Stock Exchange, at the corner of York and Adelaide streets.

The event features a select group of leading-edge individuals in conversation with prominent local journalists, including The Globe and Mail's Report on Small Business editor Sean Stanleigh, Peter Nowak, an award-winning journalist, bestselling author and syndicated blogger and Edward Keenan, senior editor and city columnist for The Grid, to discuss how they are disrupting established business models. Audience members will have a chance to participate during the question periods after each session.

A networking session will be offered at the conclusion of the panel session.

Speakers include:

Mark MacDonald, founder of Toronto Food Trucks and the Toronto Street Food Project, a social media-based campaign designed "to generate the political will necessary to get some of the current rules and regulations changed for food trucks and carts." It enables average citizens to quickly and easily take action by sending letters or using twitter to contact their City Councillor directly.

Paul Gratton, chairman of the board at First Weekend Club, a non-profit organization that is striving to revolutionize the way film lovers engage with Canadian cinema. Whenever a Canadian movie is released, First Weekend Club sends an email to its members to let them know when and where they can see it. And in August, the organization plans to launch First Weekend Flix, a video-on-demand streaming platform that will feature a curated library of the best Canadian films on the market.

Mark Zohar, CEO and co-founder of Trendspottr, a company that analyzes real-time data streams and recognizes emerging trends at their earliest acceleration point, hours and even days before they have become 'mainstream'.

Disruptors: 2012 promises to inspire professionals and entrepreneurs who share an enthusiasm for using technology, social media and the web in creative ways to affect change.

Disruptors: 2012 is hosted by North of 41, an organization focused on connecting entrepreneurs across Canada in the digital, mobile and social media space.
