Event Details

Please join us for lunch as we listen to Phil Nelson from Pinnacle West discuss Pensions.

Mr. Nelson will discuss the unique financial risks associated with corporate pension plans. Recent regulatory and accounting changes along with below average investment returns are causing many corporations to reassess their pension plan investment strategies.  Historically, pension plan investment strategies have been managed in comparison to market benchmarks such as the S&P 500 and the Barclays Capital U.S. Aggregate Index with little consideration paid to the risks associated with pension plan liabilities.  Mr. Nelson will detail pension plan investment strategies that seek to manage the risk associated with both pension plan assets and liabilities commonly referred to as “liability driven investment” strategies.
Phillip Nelson, CFA, is a member of the Trust Investments department of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation.  Mr. Nelson’s primary duties consist of managing and monitoring the long-term investments of the company, which include a Pension Plan, Savings Plan, VEBA, Nuclear Decommissioning Trust, and Foundation.  Mr. Nelson joined the company in 2004.  Mr. Nelson earned a BA degree from UC Irvine.
