Year 9 Science Workshop
Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM - Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM (BST)
Surrey, United Kingdom
For most Students, one of the thrills of secondary school is the opportunity to work in a fully equipped Science Lab. We well remember our first experience of the lab, the smell, the weird apparatus, the mad teachers in their well worn white coats.... and the very first lesson... we lit a Bunsen Burner "correctly" and watched water boil... really watched... wow! Unfortunately we are all too often hearing that today's science lesson is theory based or .. "the teacher does a demonstration behind a safety screen and we watch." or even " we watch experiments on You Tube"
The Joy of Science is the hands on experimentation … the delicious potential that “it might blow up”.. The thrill of discovery…the power of creation. How can this Country truly educate the Scientists and Engineers of tomorrow without practical experience?
This course is about becoming engulfed in that power. We will be looking at aspects of the first month’s science syllabus and conducting carefully planned, beautifully executed, science experiments in our fantastic new Science Lab.
It will be back to the glorious days when class sizes and student behaviour was such that all Science Teachers delighted in letting their students loose in practical work. Our expert, passionate Science Teachers will explain the theory, set the challenge and permit the exploration in a safe, bespoke and risk assessed environment.
Students are required to bring a science overall to protect their clothing and an inquiring mind!
For those who find it hard to tear themselves away at the end of each hour; there will be the opportunity to enrol in the weekly Science Class in the Autumn Term.
