About the CERT Basic Training Course
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training is an eight (8) session FEMA certified course on disaster preparedness. It educates those of us living in South Santa Clara County about preparedness for hazards such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods and other emergencies and disasters that may impact our community. It provides training in basic emergency response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, you will be better prepared to assist your family, neighborhood, community and workplace following an event when professional responders may not immediately be available to help.
Graduates who have completed all courses are eligible to join the "Community Emergency Response Team" (CERT) that is deployed to provide complimentary assistance to professional emergency responders during emergencies.
There is no requirement of physical fitness. Youth aged 14 and up may attend with a parent or guardian but only those who are 18 and older can serve as Disaster Service Workers.
This CERT Basic Training is open to residents of Morgan Hill, San Martin, Gilroy and surrounding unincorporated Santa Clara County at no charge.
2012 Summer Classes
All classes are on Wednesday nights except the course review / disaster simulation. All begin at 7:00 PM and end no later than 10:00 PM. The time and location of the Saturday class (Unit 9) will be announced in class.
