Ciao!

This summer, we're offering a fun and innovative new advanced Italian class in which students will watch and discuss three Italian-language movies. The movies will be a mix of classic and contemporary Italian films.

Watching original-language movies is a great way to learn colloquial Italian and to build your comprehension and speaking. Every week, we'll discuss the plots and the cultural context, and the instructor will align the week's discussion with the review of grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.

Movie Schedule: The first movie of the series will be Marriage Italian Style (available on Netflix). The other movies will be announced soon. Note: You do not have to prepare anything for the first class.

Is this class for you?

This course is intended for people who are already familiar with the basics of Italian grammar and are fairly conversant in the present, simple past, and simple future tenses.

Students should be able to speak and understand at a fairly good level, even if they aren't perfectly fluent and make some mistakes, as the class will be conducted entirely in Italian.

About this class

This course is 8 weeks long and meets for 90 minutes per weekly session. Class size is limited to 14 people.

* We strongly recommend that students have a Netflix subscription so they can watch the films on their own before class. We won't be screening the films in class, and students may want to be able to rewind and review parts of the film at their leisure.

This class will be taught by Maria Barberi, a native of Italy with several years' teaching experience.

There are no make-up classes. On the first day of class, each student will receive a syllabus that lists the weekly assignments so you can keep up with your studies if you have to miss a class.

If you wish to cancel your registration, you must contact Idlewild by telephone or email at least seven days before the start date of your class to receive a refund.

If you wish to postpone your registration to a later session, you must contact Idlewild by telephone or email at least three days before the start date of your class to receive a credit toward a future session (good for one year).
