Gian Carlo Menotti — of Amahl and the Night Visitors fame — wrote his Suite for two cellos for the great Gregor Piatagorsky. Subito, by Witold Lutoslawski, was commissioned by an International Violin Competition and is the last completed work by this great Polish composer. Earthy, tuneful Dvorak closes this program with his most famous piano trio, the Dumky.
The full program includes: Haydn: String Trio in G major, Lutoslawski: Subito for violin and piano, Menotti: Suite for two cellos and piano, and
Dvorak: Piano trio no. 4, Dumky, featuring members of The Pacifica Quartet.
