The purpose of this professional learning opportunity will be to provide a curriculum-based framework to assess and intervene in the area of language comprehension and expression. This framework is question-driven and provides assessment tools that link to instructional recommendations to impact student academic success. Practical application of the narrative assessment and interventions will be provided.
Participants will be able to:
1) state the link between oral narrative skills and academic success
2) navigate a question driven curriculum-based framework to support students withlanguage concerns
3) identify procedures to assess language comprehension and expression skills
4) score and analyze narrative and informational discourse samples
5) link instructional recommendations to student assessment results

Speaker Bio:
Wendy Robinson started her career as a speech-language pathologist in 1982. She worked in a variety of service delivery models for 15 years. She has served as a language and literacy consultant where she helped school-based teams use data to develop a more efficient, proactive and systematic framework to the meet the needs of all students. Wendy has been part of a core leadership to help design and support statewide research projects for speech language pathologists at the preschool, kindergarten, first grade and third grade level to improve language and literacy outcomes for students. She is currently the Assistant Director of Learning and Leadership at Heartland Area Education Agency 11 in Johnston Iowa.
Cost:
The registration fee for this event is $40 per person. This includes admission to all sessions and refreshments at the morning and afternoon break. Boxed lunches are available for $10 per person, and include sandwich, chips, cookie, and drink. See the registration page to order by check or cash. Transportation and lodging are additional costs as noted below.
Additionally, those seeking continuing education credits will need to pay cash or check at the event to cover processing costs. We plan to offer both ASHA and State Board CEUs for this event. This course is approved for .5 ASHA CEUs (beginning level, professional area). ASHA CEU credit costs $10. This course is also approved for .5 State Board CEU. State board CEU credits cost $10.
Transportation:
You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the conference. If you need rental car or taxi information, please let us know. Shuttles between the Prince Conference Center at Calvin College and the airport are available at no cost for guests of the Prince Conference Center. To arrange for a shuttle, please contact the Prince Conference Center at 1.866.526.7200. In addition, many hotels offer complementary shuttle service to and from the airport for hotel guests. Check with your hotel for more information.
