24EQ: Heart-Brain Communication
Friday, July 6, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM (PDT)
The 24EQ Conference presents Deborah Rozman & Jeff Goelitz...
The surprising role of the heart in cognition, emotion, and decision making
Throughout history, philosophers, poets, and prophets have regarded the human heart as the source of love, wisdom, intuition, and positive emotions. However, the scientific view of the brain as the only system involved in all cognitive and emotional functions is actually fairly recent. While psychologists have maintained that emotions are purely mental expressions generated by the brain alone, we are now beginning to see the emergence of a newer understanding of how the body, brain, and heart interact in a dynamic and complex relationship. Not only is the heart involved in a constant two-way dialogue with the brain but more precisely, the whole cardiovascular system sends far more signals to the brain than the brain is sending to the heart. The quality of those signals dramatically affect how we think, feel, perform, and relate to others.
You will learn...
- Surprising facts about heart-brain communication
- How emotions are reflected in our heart rhythms
- How the nervous system of the heart influences the brain
- The importance of self-regulation (managing thoughts and emotions) in decision making
- A technique to help achieve coherence—an optimal mental, emotional and physiological state
