Sing-a-Long: Charpentier's Midnight Mass for Christmas
Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, CA
The San Francisco-based Sacred Music Workshop will conduct its first annual Christmas in July Sing-a-Long with Charpentier's "Messe de minuit pour Noel," conducted by Sven Edward Olbash -- a benefit for Toys for Tots. This is an excellent opportunity to perform a major baroque Mass, meet new music-minded people, and support a worthwhile cause (details below).
The day will begin with a brief rehearsal of the choral sections, followed by a break for lunch, and then a complete read-through of the work with soloists. Open to anyone who would like to participate, but limited to 50 singers. Scores will be provided.
Schedule for Saturday, July 28:
10:00 - registration and welcome
10:30 - rehearsal
12:00 - lunch
1:00 - performance
This FREE event is sponsored by Lacuna Arts, a CA nonprofit charitable organization. Please consider making a donation on our behalf to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation CA Native American Programs, providing Christmas presents to children in need (suggested donation: $15-$20).
When & Where
In medieval music, a lacuna is a gap or missing section in a particular manuscript. Lacuna Arts bridges the gap between performers, audiences, and the local community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is to promote excellence in vocal music through performance, education, and community outreach.
