Join us for an evening of music and dance, where we honor the work, study and ongoing progress of our students.
Over the past ten years, the focus has been completely on live music, whether it be tabla students accompanying kathak dance, or them playing some very musical and complicated tabla pieces with lehere accompaniment
Both tabla and kathak come from very codified systems, which have always had the depth, ability and inspiration to absorb and create anew from their ever-changing environment. They are living, growing art forms.
This year, we are excited about presenting Traditions Alive to the theatre attached to our teaching location at the Bickford Centre.
Traditions Alive celebrates that the music and dance travels many miles from home, absorbs influences from Toronto, is taught with integrity and passion. The result? A Canadian lineage is born, which maintains the culture of study, tradition and performance in a totally accessible way!
This show features performances by our students, Toronto Tabla Ensemble, Chhandam Dance Company, Ritesh Das and Joanna de Souza.
