NASA Sustainability Base - The greenest Federal building on the planet - LEED Platinum PlusUSGBC- Northern California ChapterTuesday, June 12, 2012 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (PDT)Moffett Field, CA |

Event Details

Sustainability Base is a highly intelligent and intuitive facility designed to anticipate and react to changes in sunlight, temperature, wind and occupancy. This smart building can optimize its performance automatically, in real time, in response to internal and external changes. It has been certified the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum status, which is the highest LEED rating.
Meeting the White House challenge to lead by example, NASA has repurposed its technologies and incorporated them into the new building. Sustainability Base features a Bloom Energy Box, for example, that uses fuel cell technology in a clean electrical-chemical process to produce electricity. The facility also has a water recovery system, derived from one originally designed for the International Space Station, which reduces unnecessary consumption of potable water.
The NASA Sustainability Base is a 50,000 square foot office building / research platform that is a potential role model for your office. Come on down to learn their strategies and what you can do on your next project. For more information visit: NASA Sustainability Base

Learning Objectives:
This presentation will give attendees a better understanding of:
- What is the NASA Sustainability Base and its goals. What makes it the greenest Federal facility on the planet?
- How the decision making process went for LEED certification to happen (before and during construction)
- Construction challenges on achieving LEED Platinum (plus) by Swinerton Builders
Agenda:
- 5:30 pm - Registration opens, if possible please arrive early. Allow time for the traffic and allow enough time to park, obtain your security badge, and be escorted to the site. You must be pre-registered and have a government issued photo identification to enter.
- 5:30-6:25 pm -Tour of the Sustainability Base
- 6:25-6:30 pm - Announcements
- 6:30-7:40pm - NASA Presentation with Swinerton Builders on the Sustainability Base and its LEED certification by the USGBC
- 7:40-7:50 pm - Q&A
