The Community Economic Development Law Project is presenting a series of three seminars to assist people starting new nonprofits and businesses. The seminars are being held in the 37th Ward Community Meeting Room, 5346 West North Avenue. Registration is limited and there is a $10 fee for each seminar (or $25 for all three) to defray the cost of materials and refreshments.

Creating a Charity (Wed., June 10, 10am-12:30pm) Attendees will gain in-depth knowledge about the legal requirements and various filings for creating a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exempt organization. CEDLP Staff Attorney Erica Spangler Raz will present.

Starting Your New Business: Legal Structures (Tues., June 23, 7pm-9pm) Learn the possible legal structures for your new enterprise, and the liability and tax advantages and disadvantages of each. This seminar will be given by a CEDLP volunteer attorney.

Business Planning for Start-ups (Tues., July 21, 4pm-6pm) A solid business plan is critical to the success of your enterprise. For nonprofits, a well-thought out business plan will make filing for recognition of income tax exemption less difficult. A business planning expert will present.
