ORAL PLACEMENT SPEECH DISORDERS: ASSESSMENT AND PROGRAM PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Learn how to perform a comprehensive assessment for clients with oral-motor, sensory, feeding and/or speech disorders. These principles follow Sara Rosenfeld-John­son’s hierarchical approach to assessment and treat­ment. This class will lead you, step-by-step, through the assessment process used with clients of varying ages and skill levels. Participants will observe three complete di­agnostic sessions and will learn how to assess oral-motor speech deficits and develop a program plan. This seminar is based on techniques presented in “A Three Part Treat­ment Plan for Oral-Motor Therapy”. A thorough familiarity with these concepts is highly recommended in order to receive the maximum benefit.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify oral-motor, sensory, feeding and/or speech deficits in a variety of clients and diagnoses.

2. Assess oral-motor deficits in jaw-lip-tongue function.

3. Design a step-by-step program based on the client’s oral-motor/feeding/speech evaluation.

4. Apply oral-motor strategies, when appropriate, with infant, preschool, and school-aged children.
