How can you become more involved in the photographic community, expand your professional network, and help improve the future of our industry? If you have ever considered taking an active leadership role the ASMP, this is the perfect time do it. We currently have great opportunities available for members to help us make a positive impact in the Los Angeles photographic industry. As we face challenges in our business environment, influence the Orphan Works legislation, and grow and improve our own business' we, as ASMP members, are in a position to affect change. At this workshop, we will look at ways to continue to improve the operations and effectiveness of our chapter, and your participation and input is important and requested. Get involved with your chapter and take this opportunity to work together with your peers. The Chapter Leadership Training Program encompasses the following: 1. Determining the Direction and Vision for your Chapter * Establish a direction for your chapter * Creating a Chapter Mission Statement * Setting and accomplishing chapter goals 2. Knowing and Using the Resources of Your Chapter * Recognizing the resources of your Cchapter * Using them to positively affect the accomplishments of your chapter * Involving more members in leadership * Evaluation of the effect of your volunteers 3. Communication - Getting and Giving Information * Types of communication * Communicating to establish a group * Gain experience in communication * Good communication can improve your chapter 4. The Meetings of Your Chapter * How effective communication can impact your meetings -The Board Meeting -The Chapter Meeting 5. Marketing Your Vision and Your Chapter * Effective marketing of your chapter * Marketing rechniques for success * Using effective marketing tools 6. Chapter Organization * The ASMP Minimum Standards * Create an effective organization 7. Tips, Tricks and Ideas * Samples of successful programs, activities, web sites, etc. About our presenter: We are lucky to have Lon Atkinson joining us to present this powerful program. Lon Atkinson joined ASMP in 1989. He has held almost all of the leadership positions within the San Diego Chapter, including three years as president. He was the Chair of the 1998 ASMP Biennial Conference, Vice Chair of the 1999 Bradshaw Leadership Conference and Chair of the Bradshaw Conference in 2000. He was appointed to the ASMP National Board of Directors in 2001, elected to the board for a three year term in 2002 and again in 2005. He has served on the ASMP Executive Board, Chaired the Chapter Relations Committee, the Nominating Committee and currently serves as Chair of the newly formed Governance Committee. Lon, with a staff of four, operates Atkinson Studios in San Diego. Specializing in advertising and catalog photography. The studio went digital in 1992 and has never looked back. When not shooting, Lon works with the Boy Scouts of America, both the Council level and with a unit of high adventure scouts. He and his wife of 37 years enjoy horse packing, primitive camping and slumming through art galleries. Any spare funds are thrown at Lon’s ’59 VW bus, which sports a 330 horsepower, mid-engine V8. Lon is an experienced public speaker and has taught principles of leadership to volunteer leaders through weeklong seminars for several years.
