The Art of Conversation

 INFORMS the Art of Coaching

Discussion of Margaret Wheatley's timeless book:

 "Turning to One Another"

Have you bought and read your book yet?

At May's meeting (whether you've read the book or not) come join us for a riveting, facilitated conversation about the power of conversation. We will be discussing the book by Margaret Wheatley called "Turning to one another - simple conversations to restore hope to the future."

We will explore:

  • The power of conversation
  • Topics for change-causing conversation
  • Conversation starters

Join us for this Wheatley inspired conversation that will bring deeper meaning to our lives, to our relationships, to our community and to our coaching work. We will learn from her provocative ideas that have been informing conversation facilitators and change-agents for over a decade.

Consider these questions in preparation:

  • What is one sentence that moved you, caused you to reflect, or changed your perspective? (So far, Marnee's sentence is: "There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.")
  • When have you been part of a "sitting around and talking" conversation which caused changes, or, where you witnessed movement or action that made a difference? (Outside of your coaching work.)
  • What part does "heart" or "caring" play in your coaching?
  • How can you use the "conversation starters" contained in this work?

The world is changing. The ICF is changing. Each of us must change, grow and embrace change so that we become catalysts for change, and make our world a better place. This is possible by stimulating our minds and hearts, while relating and supporting each other.

The secondary opportunities this book study will create:

  • Enhance and unify our coaching insights and competencies, regardless of each person's niche.
  • A stimulating environment to exchange ideas and expand perspectives
  • Prepare ourselves for future ICF membership guidelines
