Legal Stuff Explained

Choose Your Own Venture: How to Pick the Business Structure That's Right for You

When: Thursday, May 24th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Where: NYU-Poly Incubator, 20 Jay Str. #313, 11201 Brooklyn

Who: Ilya Kushnirsky & Tudor Capusan

Whether you're starting a new venture or growing your existing business, you need to pick the right structure for your company. Your choice of entity can have legal and tax implications, whether you work alone or with others. This class covers the differences and similarities among LLCs, corporations, s-corps, partnerships, and sole proprietorships, in plain English and with practical examples that will help you make the choice that's right for you.

Teachers:

Ilya Ilya KushnirskyFor nine years, Ilya was involved with the Wonderland art collective, where he helped artists make their living from their work (and threw great underground parties). He’s also done stints with the Museum of the Moving Image, Dance Parade, and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Today Ilya runs his own legal practice that helps artists, creative professionals, entrepreneurs, and techies. He collects art, graphic novels, and indie rock, and will talk your ear off about The Hold Steady and French new wave cinema if you let him.

Tudor

Tudor Capusan: For most of his life, Tudor has been a musician with a great passion for guitar. He was involved int the NY underground rock scene for a decade and has toured with a signed band. After working at the Indiana Attorney General’s office, Tudor decided to help musicians, photographers, designers, start-up businesses, and other creative entrepreneurs. He understands the creative culture, and he provides practical counseling to those who want to create art or build a business. For fun, Tudor likes to (you guessed it) play guitar and be mesmerized by Tommy Emmanuel.
