Zanker Road Landfill, 675 Los Esteros Road San Jose, CA 95134 The tour portion of the event is now SOLD OUT, thank you! Zanker Road began in 1985 as a Class III landfill and developed into a major full service, resource management, composting/recycling facility and landfill for residents and commercial businesses. Discover how Greenwaste and their Demolition Debris Recycling Facility can process unsorted demolition debris materials at the rate of 135 tons per hour with a 95% diversion rate. 5:30pm-8:00pm - Main Presentation and Networking South Bay Yacht Club, 1491 Hope Street Alviso, CA 95002 Starting with identifying waste streams on your project, learn about Materials Recovery and Demolition Debris Processing services available in Silicon Valley. These areas include: Demolition Debris Recycling Area, Mixed Debris Recycling Area and the Wood Waste Recycling Area. This talk will discuss the many ways to process mixed loads of construction and demolition (C&D) debris, from a unique "float tank" and screening system that separates the soil, mixed concrete, and wood components from the mixed debris to a combination of conveyors, screens, magnets and water separation that separates the materials into manageable and marketable products.These products are then directed to other recycling operations on site or shipped directly to end product users:
This talk will also discuss taking the management of organic waste to the next level with the first of its kind in the United States Dry Fermentation Anaerobic Digestion Facility being developed in San Jose, CA. When it opens for operations in 2013, will not only be the first in the country, but also the largest in the world. This new facility, a joint venture between GreenWaste Recovery, Zanker Road Resource Management and Zero Waste Energy Development Company (ZWED , will take organic materials and transform those organics into clean renewable energy and rich compost. The facility will accept source separated clean organics from waste generators and also the organic fraction of waste remaining after Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is processed at GreenWaste’s Material Recovery Facility in San Jose, CA. About the Speakers Michael Gross, Marketing Manager, Greenwaste RecoveryMichael Gross has been in the waste and recycling industry for 30 years. His current responsibilities include overseeing all marketing of recycled products from the Z-Best Composting Facility, the Zanker Road Resource Recovery Operation and Landfill, and the Zanker Material Processing Facility. Mr. Gross started his career in waste management at the age of 18 in Redding California. He left in 1983 to pursue his business degree in Arizona where he also operated a refuse collection company. In 1989, Mr. Gross joined Zanker Road Landfill as the site engineer and assistant manager. Working with Zanker, Mr. Gross was instrumental in implementing the very successful yard waste pilot program with the City of San Jose. In 1995, Mr. Gross became the marketing manager for Z-Best Products and the Zanker Road Landfill. He is currently in the process of developing new and innovative markets for recycled products throughout California. Mr. Gross obtained a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.  Emily Hanson, Community Relations and Project Director, Greenwaste RecoveryFor GreenWaste, Ms. Hanson is responsible for community and governmental relations and the development and implementation of public education programs focused on recycling and waste reduction. Notably, she has led GreenWaste in the development of public, private, and nonprofit sector partnerships to foster achievements in waste diversion and instituting behavioral changes to move communities toward zero waste. Ms. Hanson’s work at GreenWaste is integral to the company’s business growth and expansion, including the development of bid proposals, contract negotiations and operational transitions. In addition, Ms. Hanson is recognized for her leadership as Project Manager for GreenWaste’s sister company, Zero Waste Energy Development Company, that will complete the first dry-fermentation anaerobic digestion facility in the United States in 2011. Prior to coming to GreenWaste, Ms. Hanson worked as the Executive Director of two non-profit organizations in the fields of agricultural resource conservation and affordable housing. Ms. Hanson received a B.A. in Politics and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
