Peak’s total portfolio asset value is in excess of 300m dollars. In 2011 Peak Capital acquired apartment communities worth well over 150 million dollars, broke ground on the largest apartment project in Utah just south of BYU’s campus and sold an operating business for millions of dollars to Vivint. Peak Ventures is a seed fund that invests in seed stage technology and operating businesses, the latest having just sold to ZAGG. Jeff co-founded and runs that group within Peak Capital Partners as well. He also is in charge of Peak's philanthropic endeavors and is actively involved and passionate about social entrepreneurship. He currently serves on the boards of The Little Heroes foundation, The Academy for Creating Enterprise and at the Ballard Center for Economic Self Reliance at BYU. Jeff participates in church and community service, leading groups between 50 and 500 people in various causes and counseling with and helping them lead better lives. He was recently asked to serve on Mitt Romney’s National Leadership committee and is involved in promoting candidates he believes in. He loves to travel the world with his wife, and as a former college basketball player enjoys coaching his sons’ basketball teams.

Presentation Title:  Necessity Entrepreneurship: American Style!

In The Weeds: 10 Minutes - Carl Richards

Using a Sharpie and a piece of card stock, Carl Richards captures complex financial ideas in simple, easy-to-understand sketches.

The Behavior Gap
It all started when Carl noticed something interesting: the real life return of the AVERAGE INVESTOR was dramatically lower than the return of the AVERAGE MUTUAL FUND. In theory, this gap shouldn’t exist, but investors were leaving money on the table and didn’t understand why it happened. Carl named this phenomenon the Behavior Gap™.

Company Presentations: 30 Minutes

COMPANY BIO:

Ferevo is an advertising platform for mobile communication apps.  We specifically offer two unique and highly customizable solutions for mobile advertising.

PRESENTER:

PRESENTER TITLE:

3 LESSONS:

Things that I've learned as an entrepreneur:

1.Now is the time to try your startup idea (especially if you're a student with no REAL responsibilities... the "I'm a student in a class project" card is freaking awesome)
2.You're idea isn't good enough for someone to forego everything they are working on and steal.  Share your ideas.
3.Take 15 mins each night and plan your next day.

COMPANY BIO:

Power Practical is about putting power into the hands of the people. Our focus is to provide alternative personal power sources and efficient electronic devices, to help people make the first step towards a more energy independent and sustainable lifestyle. We are developing a number of portable power generators, and have just launched our first product the PowerPot

PRESENTER:

Caleb Light

PRESENTER TITLE:

Founder & CEO

3 LESSONS:

1.  Kickstarter is awesome

2.  Leverage your advisers (get some if you don't)
3.  Start-Ups are a lot of work

COMPANY BIO:

TaskEasy is a brokerage that commoditizes services for users who pay contractors for standardized units of work, “Tasks,” rather than hours of labor. There’s no time consuming contractor bidding required … you just specify your location, select and describe your desired service, choose your desired quality, set your preferred schedule, confirm your contractor, and pay.  We take care of the scheduling, contractor interaction, and follow-up.  It’s a revolutionary way to simplify your life and lower your costs.

PRESENTER:

Ken Davis

3 LESSONS:

1) Spending more time "doing" and less time "organising" a business.

Having an office space and even a company structure is far less important than building a prototype of your product or talking to customers.  Don't get caught up in the error of thinking that just because you've filed your articles of incorporation, you now have a business, you don't.

2) Spend money frugaly and on the right things.  Understand risks and don't overspend to reduce risk.  When you're just starting, you've got nothing to lose, take risks!

3) Chief Executive Officer should really be called Chief Sales Officer.  Get out and talk to customers, partners, investors and even competitors.  If you aren't selling, you aren't focused on the top priorities.

Corner Dives around 8:00 p.m., get food, and then each company heads to a corner, and anyone interesting in learning more or helping dives right in with them. General networking in highly energized setting.

Please help spread the word. Bring your friends!! (If you're using Twitter, use hashtag #LaunchUp) http://bit.ly/IS8xeZ  Is the URL for all the event details. Share this event on Facebook to invite your friends.. We are also building a list of those that want to support first-time technology entrepreneurs in Utah. You can join our community.
