Description: Come join TreePeople’s Brian Rekart, Cody Chappel and the Mountains Restoration Trust for some much needed restoration in the Agoura Hills area! This beautiful site has remarkable diversity of native plants, but we need your help to halt the invasion of weeds that destroy the floral beauty of the wetlands and along the trails. This will allow native plants to create a wildlife habitat.

When: Saturday, May 19, 2012, 8:45am - 12:00pm

Special Instructions: Dress appropriately with hats, pants, closed toe shoes and sunscreen!

All volunteers MUST pre-register on the Tree People website to attend:     www.treepeople.org/volunteer-registration to register and receive further instructions regarding this event. First come, first served.

Sustainable Works

Sustainable Works is a non-profit environmental education organization and a project of Community Partners. Our mission is to foster a culture of sustainability in cities, colleges, and businesses.

The Sustainability Workshop program is a 9 week educational workshop. Students in the program meet for 1 1/2 hours once a week at the Center for Environmental and Urban Studies on the Santa Monica College Campus.

During the workshop meetings our participants will learn how to incorporate sustainable practices into their everyday lifestyles, improve their quality of life, and save money while saving resources.

Sustainability Workshops teach students how to implement simple conservation methods with the help of a trained Workshop Leader and the Sustainable WorksBook. Our WorksBook is a comprehensive and up to date resource guide that provides valuable information and recommendations for the following topic areas: waste production, water, chemical, and energy consumption, transportation emissions and consumer habits. Each chapter increases one's understanding of the local, regional, and global environmental impact of their daily choices.

Each week a trained Workshop Leader facilitates the hour and a half meeting. Workshop Leaders review participants' lifestyle assessment, educate on the topic, demonstrate a variety of simple activities, and recommend specific changes that reduce participants' environmental impact. Our peer-to-peer learning environment makes Sustainability Workshops fun and trains tomorrow's environmental leaders.

Each meeting engages students in hands-on, interactive and educational experiences.
