Eric D. Hargan, VPartner, McDermott Will & Emery LLP

Eric D. Hargan is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in its Chicago office.  Eric is a member of the Health Law Department. He provides advice in the areas of transactions, healthcare regulations, healthcare policy and government relations.

Prior to joining McDermott, Eric served as the Acting Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He also served as Regulatory Policy Officer of the Department, overseeing the development and approval of all HHS regulations and significant guidances. At HHS, Eric oversaw all operations, including Medicare, Medicaid, the regulation of food, drugs and medical devices, public health, welfare programs, medical research and other activities.  He was also the recipient of the Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service. From 2005 to 2007, Eric served as Principal Associate Deputy Secretary of HHS, and from 2003 to 2005, he served the Department as Deputy General Counsel.
