You're Such a Character
Creating realistic, relatable characters is key to developing a story that sells. Penguin Executive Editor Jill Santopolo will analyze some fictional characters who do the job well, and will talk about some tricks authors can employ to inhabit their own characters more fully. Come ready to climb into your characters' skins, speak in their voices and see the world through their eyes.
Jill Santopolo is an Executive Editor at Philomel Books, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group. She is also the author of The Nina, The Pinta and the Vanishing Treasure (Scholastic, 2008) and The Ransom Note Blues (Scholastic, 2009), and holds a BA in English Literature from Columbia University and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from The Vermont College of Fine Arts. In her not-so-spare time, she teaches fiction writing at McDaniel College and is a thesis adviser at The New School.

Event details: Doors open at 7.15pm. Seating is limited to the first 70 people, including seats sold by check.
