Join Slow Food Denver for a day at Cottonwood Creek Farms

Don't miss the chance to get to know your local farmers and ranchers by joining Slow Food Denver's 2012 Farm Tour Series!  For this second tour of the season, we will travel a bit further afield to Cottonwood Creek Farms.  For those of you who have read Michael Pollan's Ominvore's Dilemma, you will be excited to see a similar approach to farming as Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm.  Following the tour we will share a lunch featuring products from Cottonwood Creek, prepared by Chef Chris Clarke of Door to Door Organics.

We hope to see you on a lovely Saturday morning for an educational day and to enjoy the very best in local food.  Please arrange your own transportation to the farm (carpooling encouraged), and plan to arrive on time - we will not be able to hold the tour for late arrivals.

This is the second event in our 2012 Farm Visit Series - to learn more, please see Slow Food Denver

About Cottonwood Creek Farms:

Family farmed since 1932, Cottonwood Creek Farms is raising meat and eggs on pastures that are free from herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, commercial fertilizers or any other man-made chemicals or compounds.  The farm raises their own grains and mills them on the farm to provide the freshest feed possible. They rotate their animals through pastures in a pattern that mimics the great bison herds - cattle followed by chickens followed by rest.

A few things to consider:
  • In our efforts to reduce waste, Slow Food Denver asks that everyone bring their own 'picnic kit' to include plates, bowls, utensils, napkins and cups.  We will have back ups for those who forget or aren't able to do this.
  • We will be walking through the fields so sturdy walking shoes are important!  Also remember to bring sunscreen/hat, insect repellent, a warm layer, a camera, water bottles and rain gear (just in case)
  • In the event of inclement weather, please check your email Friday evening. We will send a note if we need to postpone the trip.
