Thanks to Ron Owen for suggesting a special working group meeting to develop a generic training template to comply with the first employee training requirement under HazCom 2012.  Although employers have until 12/1/2013 to train employees on the new label elements and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format, there is no time like the present to get started.  Because this is a working meeting, registration will be limited to the first ten registrants;  we recommend that companies send individuals familiar with implementing HazCom programs.  The results of the working group will be shared with PRR members.

Because the SDSs and labels will begin to change now, it seems advantageous to train employees sooner rather than later on the new label elements and SDS format prior to the deadline.  During the “transition period,” (until 1 June 2016) employers are permitted to comply with either standard, but it would be beneficial to avoid potential incidents or complaints to Cal/OSHA.
