Get your waders, cause this Crop Mob is on the water! As the low-country waters warm, the close of oyster season is fast approaching. But for an Oyster farmer the end of April signals the sowing of next year's crop. Oysterman Frank Roberts and his crew operate Lady's Island Oyster Farm, a unique approach to sustainable aquaculture. Located off the Coosaw River, near Beaufort, SC, Frank's oyster farm is revolutionizing commercial oyster sales by not only offering select single oysters, but growing and harvesting sterile oysters sustainably.

This mob has been planned around the tides. In true mob style, we will be helping with a task that without a mob would be a pretty large undertaking for a small farmer. Mobbers will arrive on terra firma (an island) around 9:30 to 10:00 to cut and bundle bamboo to prepare to plant in the water. With low tide around 2:30 we board boats and work in teams to stick bamboo in the oyster beds. This mob is limited to 10 spots.

Of course, a Crop Mob on Lady's Island Oyster Farm wouldn't be complete without an oyster roast after our work is done!
