Event Details

From the Arab Spring, KONY 2012, to epic fails from companies like Qantas and EnergyWatch through to the OurSay The People’s Question the internet is giving people a new voice and fundamentally changing the way democracy works in the 21st century.

On the evening of Wednesday May 30, the crew from online democracy startup OurSay, will be hosting a workshop at HubMelbourne, to talk about how this change is taking place and how it is affecting the interaction between media, politics and citizens.

During the workshop we'll discuss how the internet has evolved, its impact on politics and society and how OurSay is a part of this exciting period.

The centrepiece of the evening will have guests from Change.orgThe Conversation,The Age and Melbourne-based advocacy group Do It On The Roof in a panel moderated by the team from OurSay discussing how citizens, the media and leaders are responding to the challenges and opportunities posed by the internet.

What is OurSay?
OurSay is a social enterprise, created in 2010, that uses social media as a fundamental component of its outreach and engagement with existing users, key stakeholders and potential partners.

OurSay works as a facilitator between ordinary citizens and the people in charge, holding online forums where users submit questions to key political figures, thought leaders and captains of industry. The users who ask the most popular questions then get them answered by the decision-maker in the form of a video or a live town-hall style forum.  OurSay has worked with organisations such as ABC’s Q&AThe Sunday AgeCrikey.com.au & The Melbourne Press Club.
