Event Details

 Black Girls Code is offering an exciting 1-day workshop in Chicago, IL on Saturday, May 19, 2012.  The event is graciously hosted by our sponsors at Thoughtworks Chicago.  This workshop will teach participants to create a video game in the Kodu language which can be viewed on an Xbox. 
 
All BGC events are geared towards introducing participants to the technological universe and encouraging them to pursue careers as Tech Creators and Entrepreneurs.  This event is intended for girls ages 7-16.
 
The event starts promptly at 10:00AM.  Participants will be provided computer access during the workshop and will be provided lunch. All attendees will be refunded $10 of their registration fee upon arrival to the event.
 
Professional mentors from Thoughtworks Chicago as well as Tech Professional Volunteers will be on hand to assist with the project. 
 
Kodu

Kodu is a new visual programming language made specifically for creating games. It is designed to be accessible for children and enjoyable for anyone. The programming environment runs on the Xbox, allowing rapid design iteration using only a game controller for input. BlackGirlsCode is an organization that has as its mission a goal of increasing the numbers of young women of color in the field of digital and computer technology by providing them with skills in computer programming, exposing them to role models in the technology space, and increasing their self-confidence by teaching them the skills required to become tech creators and entrepreneurs.  Imagine the impact!
