Jazz for Peace to Perform in Berkeley, CA

 "After historic concerts in Africa (click here for details) and Brazil (click here for details), Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace perform for Voces y Manos”

Berkeley, CA – On Saturday, May 19, 2012, 7:30 PM, Jazz for Peace featuring Singer / Pianist / Composer Rick DellaRatta considered by many to be one of the finest jazz artists performing today, and his band, will perform a special Benefit Concert for Voces y Manos in St. John’s Church located at 2727 College Avenue in Berkeley, CA. Opening for the Jazz for Peace Band will be a very special performance by the REALM middle school jazz band.

Voces y Manos empowers youth in Indigenous Guatemalan communities to affect transformative social change their communities. Proceeds from this benefit concert will be used to fund Voces y Manos scholarship program which gives indigenous youth leaders the opportunity to pursue higher education and develop as community leaders.  For more information please visit: www.vocesymanos.org

Rick DellaRatta is now considered by many to be one of the finest Singer/Pianists performing today and one of only a handful of Jazz Artists who can make a successful musical presentation to a large audience without having to abandon the true art form of Jazz. Having performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Paquito D' Rivera, His unique and original piano playing and composing has been compared in print to Chick Corea, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner and Thelonius Monk while his signature vocal sound and style has been likened to Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Michael Franks and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Recently, Rick DellaRatta was included in the Book “Jazz Singers” as one of the top Jazz Vocalists of all time and by The Foundation Center in their list of the top musician philanthropists of our time along with Bono (U2), Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Sting.

Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace

On September 25, 2002 Jazz pianist and vocalist Rick DellaRatta was invited to lead a band consisting of Israeli, Middle Eastern, European, Asian and American Jazz Musicians in a concert inside the United Nations for an International audience in what is now considered one of the significant cultural events of our time. Rick named this band JAZZ FOR PEACE™ and has since performed over 800 Benefit Concerts to raise funds, publicity and awareness for outstanding organizations in need worldwide. In addition Jazz for Peace performs educational programs bringing music and Jazz back into the schools and donates musical instruments to underprivileged children. Jazz for Peace concerts have featured Rick DellaRatta along with such notable jazz artists as Paquito D’Rivera, Victor Lewis, Lenny White, Eddie Gomez, Dave Valentin, Ray Mantilla, Rick Margitza and many others. Mr. DellaRatta’s Jazz influenced orchestral composition “Permutata” was recently recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.
