Class: Practicing the Six Perfections in the Laboratory of Our Lives

Thursdays, May 10 - June 7
(5 Class Meetings)
7:30 - 9 pm
with Anshin Rosalie Curtis and Kyoshin Wendy Lewis

Practice Period Class

The six paramitas (perfections)—generosity, ethical behavior, patience, joyous effort, concentration and wisdom—are a set of instructions that point to transformation of suffering into peace, non-fear, happiness and freedom. We will practice applying them in our daily lives and, through our own experience, see how these practices work together to enable us to live with peace and joy and to benefit all beings.

The text for this class is The Six Perfections: Buddhism and the Cultivation of Character by Dale Wright.

San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC)

Established in 1962 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and his American students, San Francisco Zen Center is a Soto Zen Buddhist community with three practice places in the SF Bay Area: City Center, an urban temple in the heart of San Francisco; Green Gulch Farm, in Marin County, where fertile fields meet the ocean; and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, the first Zen training monastery in the West, in the Ventana Wilderness inland from Big Sur. At San Francisco Zen Center, zazen, study, and work practice are available to a diverse population of students, visitors, lay people, priests, and monks. All are welcome!
