An Urban Pig Roast

One of the big dreams of Emerging Chefs has been to create an All-American pig feast. Oh yeah – we are talking about building spits and grilling beautiful pigs right in the middle of the city! And then create dishes that use the whole pig – “Snout to Tail!” Lucky for us – Cleveland is home to one of the finest chefs who specializes in beautiful pork.
We are thrilled to have Executive Sous Chef Melissa Khoury of Washington Place Bistro join us for a once in a lifetime culinary experience of epic porcine proportions. Join us on May 24th, 2012 – from 6pm to 9pm at Dunham Tavern in Cleveland’s rapidly changing Midtown area to enjoy an amazing pork festival! Happy to say that Chef Ellis Cooley formerly of AMP 150 will be flying up from Miami, Florida to be Chef Khoury's sous chef!
‘Snout to Tail’ will celebrate the great, and addictive, taste of pork. The menu will consist of a multiple course offering featuring pork in every dish. The Dunham Tavern will be the historic background of this amazing event. The Dunham Tavern became a social and political center facilitating parties, turkey shoots and meetings of the Whig party. The Dunham’s sold the Tavern in 1853, but it continued to serve as a tavern until 1857 when a banker bought it for his home. Amazingly, this residence stood through Euclid Avenue’s rise and fall. Stagecoach stops to car dealerships, Millionaire’s Row to urban renewal . . . Dunham Tavern has remained.
In the 1930s the Tavern served as studio space for a group of WPA artists and printmakers. The Society of Collectors, organized in the early 1930s, became interested in the historic site and eventually took responsibility for the structure, opening it to the public in 1941. Dunham Tavern is now a nonprofit museum supported by donations, members, grants, sponsorships and monies raised from tours and outreach events. And now the Dunham Tavern and our celebrated Chef – Melissa Khoury – will make history again as we offer the City’s first pig roast ever in Midtown!
