Midnight Sun Bible Camp Purpose and Goals

Midnight Sun Bible Camp seeks to bring people of all ages together in the natural setting of the great outdoors and provide for them a Christian atmosphere for relaxation, recreation, study, and fellowship.
• To bring about a faith in God as Father and Creator, in Jesus Christ as Son, and in the Holy Spirit as Comforter and Guide.
• To enrich and strengthen character through Christian example and association.
• To improve social skills by working, playing, and cooperating with others.
• To lead to a greater appreciation of spiritual values through the experience of worship, study, and fellowship in the camp setting.
• To bring about greater unity among Christians from around the state.
• To develop a healthy appreciation of God’s creation.
• To instill a knowledge of God’s blessings and our individual responsibility to serve Him.

MSBC Policy

In order to carry out our purposes and goals, a Christian environment must be maintained throughout the camp program. This means that everyone must abide by the general policies of the camp and obey the rules which have been established in order that everyone might have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Everyone is expected to maintain a positive Christian attitude. This means that the individual must conduct himself or herself in keeping with Christian principles. Christian courtesy, modest dress, refraining from unsafe or unhealthy activities, and a Christ-like demeanor are expected at all times. This action will provide the positive example we wish to foster in order to achieve our stated purpose.

Camp Rules and Regulations

The camp director, while under the authority of the eldership of the Anchorage Church of Christ, is, during a camp session, the final authority on all matters pertaining to policy and rules. He will be responsible for determining whether a camper is returned home due to illness, safety infractions, or failure to obey camp rules.
General Rules and Regulations
• Campers are expected to attend the full camp session.
• At a minimum, parents/guardians and the elders of the Anchorage Church of Christ will be notified if any camper breaks the law, and the camper will immediately be transported home.
• Counselors shall be at least 21 years old. Assistant counselors will be at least three years older than the oldest camper and at least 17 years old.
• If campers want to work at camp, they may do so, but it must be at a different week and for only one week. They must also attend their own week as a camper.
• A parent worker may attend with a child at the director’s discretion. A counselor may not bring a child. If the child is of camper age, he/she must be a camper and will have no special privileges. The parent must be a worker and the camper must be a camper.
• When at all possible, two counselors per cabin will be assigned. The minimum counselor to camper ratio will be 1 to 6, and 1 to 7 for Primary and Intermediate weeks respectively and 1 to 8 for Junior, and Senior weeks. It is strongly recommended that there be a head male and head female counselor for each week.
• A registration form must be submitted signed by a parent/legal guardian. This signature covers several agreements and permissions. A camper signature is also required. If registration is done on-line, the camper will need to sign on paper before getting on the bus. No camper will be allowed at camp without this registration form.
• Individuals with special needs may attend camp if the camp staff is able to attend to those needs within their normal camp duties. The determination of whether or not the camp staff is capable of meeting those needs is the responsibility of the camp director.
Safety Rules
Safety is a primary concern at Midnight Sun Bible Camp.
• Cabin campfires must be supervised at all times and extinguished properly before abandoning them.
• Hiking on roads or trails will be done as a group of three or more with an adult present and the approval of the camp director.
• No one, including staff, may be pushed or thrown into the lake.
• Every individual will wear a properly fitted and fastened life jacket while participating in any boating activity. No camper is permitted in or on boats except during supervised boating periods.
• No swimming is permitted except during supervised swim periods, at designated docks, and with the “buddy system.”
• A minimum of two qualified staff members will be directly present during all swimming and boating activities.
• Campers who do not pass a swim test must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) during swim time.
• No horseplay or dangerous behavior is allowed in or near the water. No boat swamping, ramming, or any other dangerous behavior is allowed.
• Dress shall be modest at all times. The following are specifically not permitted:
Shorts and cut-offs above the knee (they must be to the knee)
