Program Description
Preparing for a disaster is vital for all of us and can be the key to survival for our most vulnerable victims, infants. In this important full day seminar, we will explore strategies to protect breastfeeding and the general health and well being of mothers and babies.
The steps needed to assess, coordinate and monitor infant feeding resources before and during disasters will be discussed. We will also hear about lessons learned from the frontline of Hurricane Katrina and other recent disasters.
During emergencies, the availability of breast milk can be lifesaving. We will learn the importance of milk banks in supporting disaster efforts. Finally, we will address the common question of how nursing mothers can make a difference during these times of need.
