Event Details

Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic understanding of photography and how ISO, shutter speeds and aperture values are used to create a proper exposure.

Mark Wallace is coming to Houston with a workshop that will teach you how to use your Nikon or Canon speedlights in a fun an informative way. This workshop is like nothing Mark has done before: it's part teaching, part show. Video, animations, music, audience participation (it might be you on the stage) and more. This is a workshop that's as fun as it is educational.

Mark is known for his easy-to-understand teaching style. Millions have viewed his teaching on AdoramaTV, he's been a featured teacher on creativeLIVE and he's a regular contributor on photography gear blogs including PocketWizard, Sekonic and Profoto. Mark's down-to-earth language and humor make the principles of photography understandable to anyone.

Take your photography to the next level by learning how to use your external flash. In this workshop you’ll learn how to use a flash for maximum creative effect.

Mark will be shooting live and showing his results (good or bad) on a huge video screen. You'll see how he meters and shoots every photo. He'll show you the gear you need as well as lots of gear that you'll want (but can add to your camera bag later).

Topics include:

  • Understanding the controls on your flash
  • How your camera determines exposure.
  • Flash Photography Basics
  • Using the Aperture to control flash exposure
  • Getting creative with flash and shutter speeds
  • Balancing flash and ambient light
  • Rear-curtain shutter sync
  • Freezing action with your flash
  • Bouncing your flash
  • Using a flash in low-light
  • Using your flash to soften shadows (fill flash)
  • Shooting with your flash off-camera
