Technovation Challenge Regional Pitch Competition

We cordially invite you to our Technovation Challenge New York City Pitch Competition! Join us as each team of high school girls presents their mobile app design and business plan in front of a panel of judges, showing off the skills they learned in the 2012 Technovation Challenge program.

Light refreshments will be offered during the live app demo period from 6-7pm, where you'll have an opportunity to meet the girls, see their apps, and mingle with industry leaders and budding entrepreneurs.

At 7pm, the pitches will begin, followed by a presentation by our keynote speaker, Rachel Weiss (AVP, Digital Strategy and Interactive Marketing at L'Oreal) and an awards ceremony.

Our panel of judges includes:

Charles Best (CEO/Founder, DonorsChoose.org)

Dennis Crowley (Co-Founder, Foursquare)

Donald Lacey (Director, Citigroup Global Markets Asia)

David Tisch (Managing Director - NYC, TechStars)

The Technovation Challenge Program

This spring, over 500 high-school girls from around the country take part in the challenge to build the most innovative science education mobile app using App Inventor for Android. Courses are hosted by Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Adobe, Twitter, UC Berkeley, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

During the 10-week program, students utilize principles from the Lean Business Model and the Design Thinking process as they develop a prototype, do market research, write a business plan, and formulate a "pitch" for the final competition. Each team is supported by both a classroom teacher "coach" and a female mentor from the technology industry.

The winning team from each regional pitch competition (in NYC, LA, Boston, and 7 sites in the Bay Area) will go on to compete in a national pitch night on May 3rd. The grand prize is professional app development and distribution on the Android Market.

~

Admission to Pitch Night is free. However, you may wish to show your support by making a small donation to Technovation. Simply select a "donation-based" ticket to sponsor one of the five participating NYC schools.  We appreciate your contribution!
